10 Things In Batman Movies That Make No Sense

1. Batman's Cinematic History Of Murder

Despite being one of Batman's core tenets, the Dark Knight's no-kill policy is largely disregarded in even the better Batman movies - with the ironic exception being the worst Batman film, Batman & Robin.

Every other major Batman film has violated the Caped Crusader's stringent no-kill ethos from the comics, beginning with Tim Burton's '89 Batman.

In the film, Batman straight-up murders several of The Joker's thugs by blowing them up and hurling them to their deaths, before committing the cardinal sin of actually killing the Clown Prince of Crime himself.

In Batman Returns, he kills The Penguin (Danny DeVito), while in Batman Forever he kills Two-Face, and things only get worse when we get to the Christopher Nolan years.

The Nolan movies are even more baffling in their approach to the policy because they actively draw attention to Bruce refusing to be an executioner, only to have him cause death pretty damn directly throughout the trilogy.

In Batman Begins, Bruce burns down the League of Shadows' HQ and clearly kills people, before causing Ra's al Ghul's (Liam Neeson) death and refusing to save him.

In The Dark Knight he kills Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) in order to save Jim Gordon's son, and in The Dark Knight Rises, he blows up Talia al Ghul's (Marion Cotillard) Tumbler, resulting in her death from internal injuries.

Meanwhile in Batman v Superman, an admittedly more tortured rendition of Bruce unapologetically kills criminals and sets them up to be murdered in jail, while also planning to "destroy" Superman for the threat he presents to Earth.

While you can argue about the utilitarian value of Batman killing a few people to save millions, that doesn't change the fact that it entirely flies in the face of who Batman is for him to take even a single life.

That is the line which separates him from criminals, and one which the movies have categorically blurred, typically for no good reason.
