10 Things In The DCEU That Make No Sense

8. Why Can't Wonder Woman Know She Is The Godkiller?

The Flash Vision
Warner Bros.

In the beginning of Wonder Woman, the titular character is told by her mother, Hippolyta, how Ares betrayed the Ancient Greek pantheon and killed the gods. Since Ares is the god of war, no conventional weapon can harm him apart from a sacred sword called the Godkiller.

In the final battle, Diana uses the sacred blade against Ares, only to learn that is has no effect on him. Ares then reveals that Diana is the Godkiller, not the sword.

This revelation has no purpose except to serve as a cheap twist. Why was Diana not allowed to know she was the Godkiller? You might think that Hippolyta didn't tell her because she knew Diana would seek out Ares and probably get herself killed in the process. Okay, fair enough.

So when her mother catches Diana leaving her home to pursue Ares, why doesn't she tell her then? I'm pretty sure it would be really helpful if Diana knew the sword she was carrying would have no effect on Ares.

Also, if her mother didn't want Diana to know about the Godkiller, why did she tell her the story of it in the first place? Why did she tell Diana about Ares at all?
