10 Things We Learned From The Super Bowl Trailers

3. Need For Speed Just Might Not Suck

We've already seen a 2-minute trailer for the upcoming Aaron Paul-starring adaptation of the Need for Speed video game series, but isn't this just the sort movie that benefits a lot more from short TV spots than long trailers? You see, a 30-second TV spot emphasises a minimal engagement with the plot and serves simply a show-reel of some awesome action scenes, which is exactly what it does, and this seems to be exactly what Need for Speed needs to do to succeed. The longer trailer makes the film look better than I would have expected, though the plot is highlighted, which is of course going to be predictable, standard fare. If director Scott Waugh keeps the chatting to a minimum and sticks to plenty of awesome vehicular mayhem, this could be one of the breakout hits of the year. I wasn't totally convinced by the first trailer, but this fast-moving, visually impressive teaser has just about won me over.
