10 Things Marvel Fans Don't Want To Accept About Sony's Marvel Universe
5. Gwen Stacy Is Spider-Man's Worst Love Interest
In the comic books, Gwen Stacy is a great character and the tragic end to her story is one that still has an impact on stories told today. Marvel Comics also deserves a lot of credit for the way she's been reinvented in recent years, and "Spider-Gwen" is an undeniable breakout both on the page and big screen (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).
Unfortunately, in live-action, Gwen hasn't fared at all well. In Spider-Man 3, she was only there to make Mary Jane Watson jealous, and the character deserves better than that. Bryce Dallas Howard was a good fit for the role, but something about that interpretation of the character fell short.
With Emma Stone's version, Gwen was smartened up, and made more than just a damsel in distress. For whatever reason, Sony Pictures decided to kill her off in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, butchering the classic "Death of Gwen Stacy" storyline in the process. That aside, her relationship with Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker was beyond toxic.
No matter how great a character Gwen is, she's undeniably the worst love interest for Spidey on screen thus far, with Mary Jane and "MJ" massive improvements (despite seemingly not being as popular).
