10 Things MCU Phase 3 Must Avoid (And Why)

8. More Mediocre Villains

The MCU has had a villain problem for quite some time now, with Phase 2's Malekith, Ronan and Yellowjacket proving especially underwhelming.

The primary issue is that these villains are so easily outclassed and out-charmed by the hero that they're just not very entertaining to watch: the better MCU baddies, such as Loki and Red Skull, have larger-than-life personalities that make them tremendously entertaining to watch.

At least Phase 3 is off to a good start with its first villain, Civil War's Helmut Zemo. Flying in the face of rogue AIs and aliens, he's a mere human being with a simple (if slightly convoluted) plan, one that he pulls off no less.

While we'll hopefully see more of Zemo sometime down the line, Phase 3 does at least have some promising baddies waiting in the wings: Mads Mikkelsen's sorcerer villain in Doctor Strange, Guardians 2 is rumoured to have Ayesha, Spider-Man: Homecoming may have The Vulture, Thor: Ragnarok has Cate Blanchett's Hela, Black Panther may have Andy Serkis' Ulysses Klaue, and of course, Infinity War has the main event himself, Thanos.

In short, Phase 3 would have to make so many catastrophic mistakes to repeat Phase 2's villain problem.
