10 Things You Need To Know About Fifty Shades Of Grey

7. There Is An Online Hate Campaign Against Dakota Johnson

Whoever was cast in the Fifty Shades movie, there was always going to be a certain quarter of fans who weren't happy with it, but there's been a surprisingly strong backlash against Johnson in particular, with fans complaining on message boards such as IMDB and even creating petitions to try and convince Universal to recast the character (one of which raised 80,000 signatures). The chief complaint appears to be that Johnson simply looks too "old", despite being a mere 24 years of age during the majority of the shooting. Also contentious is the fact that the actress doesn't resemble James' description of the character much at all, and it doesn't seem like the filmmakers have made much of an effort to tailor her look to that of the novel character. But then, considering how few actresses would really be brave enough to risk their career on a role such as this, beggars can't be choosers, and Universal really had to work with the best they could get. Still, combined with the reports of her turning Anastasia into a "dishrag", it's not exactly encouraging that Johnson is going to nail this much-beloved character.
