When news broke that Robert Downey Jr. would be starring in Captain America 3 the internet exploded with anticipation. It looked like we were finally going to see a big screen version of Civil War, the definitive comic arc where the government tries to introduce a Superhero Registration Act, something that the recent announcements have both officially confirmed and altered perceptions for. You see, instead of being a massive story told over multiple titles as in print, the cinematic Civil War will be solely contained in one movie. We always knew any Civil War on film would be fundamentally different from its source, with the whole notion of secret identities being rather redundant in the MCU and key player Spider-Man unable to appear due to contractual reasons, but there's still a winding, complex story that really needs more than a couple of hours to be fully explored. Marvel had already postponed the Infinity Gauntlet saga with Age Of Ultron and we were more than happy to see that put off again in favour of a bigger Civil War story. Although at the very least there will be some far reaching repercussions from the events of the single film; the titular villain of Thor: Ragnarok was, in the comics at least, born from the conflict.
