10 Things You Need To Know About Michael Bay's TMNT
9. Early Previews Suggest Good Things
This past week, journalists were shown roughly 12 minutes of footage from TMNT, including the audience's introduction to the Turtles, their banter with April, Donatello's absurd array of technology, and the chaotic mountainside chase which culminates with the (in)famous shot of Raphael smashing into a humvee. What's been consistent from most of the outlets who have viewed the footage is the feeling that the movie will successfully adapt the cartoon, primary in the aspect of tone, which was one of our chief complaints about a Michael Bay-produced Turtles movie in the first place. Rather than becoming an absurdly bombastic epic blockbuster, TMNT reportedly plays like a full-out action-comedy, emphasising fun over everything else. The consensus seems to be that while these Turtles don't quite look like the ones we grew up loving, the themes and characters are faithful enough to compensate, and that's really what matters. Not everything in the previews was a hit with critics (as we'll get to momentarily), but it appears to have its heart in the right place.
