10 Things You Need To Know About The New Harry Potter Film
2. The Possible Cameo: Dumbledore?
That said, the one person who might return would be the late great Albus Dumbledore. After all, he would have been one of the few characters from the novels that would have actually been alive in the 1920s (according to the Harry Potter wikipage, Dumbledore was born in 1881, making him in his forties during the events of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). In a recent Q+A session, producer David Heyman discussed the possibility of bringing back Dumbledore in a cameo role. During the time period of this film, the Hogwarts headmaster would have been either Phineas Black or Armando Dippet, depending on whether it is in the early or late 1920s, and we're not sure exactly when Dumbledore became a teacher at the school. So even if the film doesn't spend any time dealing with the wizarding school, there's no reason why a pre-Hogwarts Dumbledore couldn't show up during the course of the film. Heyman said that if the character was in the film, they would need to get Michael Gambon to play him, rather than hiring a younger version of him, which makes it seem as though they are seriously considering the idea.
