2. Paramount Want It To Be Like Guardians Of The Galaxy
That said, it looks like the studio could be set to take the series in an even more radical direction than before. Already the rebooted Star Trek had rubbed up some hardcore, old school fans up the wrong way by abandoning the more steady pace and Naval-style battles of diplomacy and attrition from the original series in favour of high-octane Hollywood action. But it could get worse. Or better, depending on your point of view. Reportedly Paramount wanted to make the third film more like Guardians Of The Galaxy, Marvel's surprise mega-hit from this summer. A surprise because it was a property nobody had heard of beforehand, and because it was the first time the studio had strayed from their usual superhero fare in favour of a sci-fi story. It raked in $772 million worldwide in the end. The Star Trek films were reasonably popular, but they weren't box office blockbusters in the same way. In the way that Paramount probably need them to be, so taking cues from another big success makes sense (even if it was the reason Orci left). Does that mean more jizz jokes and seventies rock? That...that seems okay.
