10 Things You Need To Know About Star Trek 3

4. George Takei Might Make An Appearance Too

Shatner is the biggest name to ever come out of Star Trek, but he's far from the most popular. In fact, most of his former cast members and a lot of his fans regard him as kind of a pompous, self-entitled asshole who still trades off of the success of the original series whilst simultaneously demanding to be taken seriously as an actor. And a musician. Neither of which will be happening any time soon. Far more widely beloved is George Takei, who appeared alongside Nimoy and Shatner in the original Star Trek series as Sulu, the helmsman of the USS Enterprise played by John Cho in the new films. Between his LGBT campaigning and crazy popular social media accounts, Takei's remained in the spotlight in a much more positive light. That's probably what kicked off the rumours that he too might make a cameo appearance in Star Trek 3, along the same lines and Shatner and Nimoy. His last appearance as Sulu was in 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Might be about time he returned to the silver screen, eh?
