10 Things Nobody Wants Admit About The Amazing Spider-Man Films

5. The Supporting Characters Are Really Engaging

The Amazing Spider-Man may have been primarily focused on Peter Parker's character journey but it still devoted a fair amount of time to building a solid cast of supporting characters. The second one definitely overdid it by cramming too many characters in and not giving them enough time to breathe, but most of the already-established characters worked because of what we saw in the first film.

On that note, the franchise-starter took its time with Peter's story, fleshing out his arc by exploring his relationship with Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Thus, even though Ben may have only appeared in the first 30 minutes of the film, audiences rooted for him because of how well his character had been built in that short amount of time.

Yes, it's well-known that Aunt May could have used more material in both films but Sally Field found a way to work with that material to ensure we cared about the character. The same could be said for Denis Leary with Captain Stacy.

Moreover, while the interpretations of the Lizard and Green Goblin left a lot to be desired, the same can't be said for Dr. Curt Connors and Harry Osborn, who served as great tragic antagonists, making us feel for them as they found themselves on a path of no return.

The marriage between the writing and the performances went a long way in making us, as viewers, empathise with the supporting characters... even if they weren't always given enough screen-time.
