10 Things That Almost Completely Changed Spider-Man: Far From Home
7. All New Captain America
After the enormous scale team-up of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man has to spend Far From Home working as a solo hero. That didn't stop speculation that other Avengers might have a part to play here, though.
Marvel and Watts shot down a popular rumour that Doctor Strange was due to feature once the idea of a multiverse was raised (perhaps because a real wizard might just see straight through the illusions of a phony magic practitioner like Mysterio).
They did, however, come very close to another Avenger showing up to help out in the final act in the form of Sam Wilson.
Early drafts of the Far From Home script were to give us our first glimpse of the former Falcon having now assumed the role of Captain America, after being anointed as such by the aged Steve Rogers in the final scenes of Endgame.
The idea was to have the new Cap swoop in to offer his assistance in the final Tower Bridge showdown with Mysterio's army of drones and, frankly, it does seem a little odd that Fury didn't consider using Sam instead of a high school kid for this mission in the first place!
Ultimately, Watts decided that including a new Captain America would distract from Spidey's solo arc and his issues with dealing with Iron Man's legacy and so Sam's debut with the shield was left to his own TV show: 2020's Disney+ series The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.
