10 Things That Make No Sense About Star Wars Sequels
2. Why Didn't Holdo And Leia Tell People Their Plan?
One of the many things that confused audiences about The Last Jedi was the subplot involving Poe's suspicions about Vice-Admiral Holdo. After Leia is incapacitated for the majority of the film, Holdo takes control of the Resistance and begins making decisions that Poe questions. Having been demoted and chastised due to his rash and costly victory over a First Order Dreadnought ship, Holdo doesn't share her grand scheme with Poe.
It's only after Poe tries to rebel against Holdo and Leia wakes up to set everything right that the bigger picture is revealed. All of Holdo's decisions were preparing the Resistance to abandon their flagship and take escape pods to the nearby planet of Crait where they could hold up in an old Rebellion base. The plan ultimately fails due to DJ's betrayal, but it made no sense that Holdo wouldn't make her idea known sooner.
While nothing requires her to reveal her plan, she is the highest ranking Resistance commander available after all, doing so would have prevented Poe from sending his friends on a pointless side-quest, inciting a mutiny against Holdo, and delaying the Resistance's eventual escape. It doesn't even make sense thematically. Knowing the Resistance had to get to Crait before the First Order caught up with them would have just as much, if not more, dramatic tension as Poe's weariness of Holdo.
