10 Things That Make No Sense About Star Wars Sequels

3. Why Did Luke Travel With Lando?

A major plot point in Rise of Skywalker is the lost Sith planet of Exegol. Located beyond the outer rim of the Star Wars galaxy, Exegol is a hazardous wasteland hidden in uncharted space. Before he began to train the next generation of Jedi, Luke went on a quest to find the it by way of a rare Sith Wayfinder, only two of which exist.

Rise of Skywalker follows Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, and the droids as they pick up on Luke's old path. It leads them to the franchise's third desert planet: Pasaana. There, they encounter Lando Calrissian, the last member of the original trilogy's central characters to return to the series. He reveals that he accompanied Luke on his mission to find the Sith Wayfinders and is able to guide them back to where he and Luke lost the trail.

But wait a minute, why would Luke take Lando on his hunt for Exegol? They were never particularly close in the Original Trilogy, in fact they had almost no interaction. Meanwhile Leia was his sister and Han was his best friend/brother-in-law. Why wouldn't he take them along instead of someone he barely knew? And for that matter, why would Lando care to find a mythical Sith planet? What possible interest would he have in it?
