10 Things That NEED To Happen In Upcoming Movie Sequels

4. A Scarier, More Intense Tone - Ghostbusters 4

Let's be honest - Ghostbusters: Afterlife was... fine. Jason Reitman's legacy sequel offered up nostalgic comfort food, decent acting, solid production values, and pretty basic ghost-busting nonsense.

But considering how tonally tame both Afterlife and the 2016 reboot felt, it'd be great to see the inevitable next film return to the more ominous and unnerving tone of the 1984 original.

Ghostbusters '84 was a lot less afraid to make kids uncomfortable with its nightmarish imagery, and to see a new sequel made in that same vein - rather than the over-sentimental hooey of Afterlife - would be hugely refreshing.

PG-13 movies can get away with a lot these days - just look at both A Quiet Place films - so there's no reason why a new Ghostbusters movie can't ratchet up the intensity and deliver something truly nerve-rattling.

But given that Afterlife finally got the series back on firm footing at the box office, it's sadly far more likely that Sony will simply offer up more of the same schmaltzy, un-challenging cinematic candy floss.
