10 Things That Will Never Happen In The DC Cinematic Universe

1. Identity Crisis

One of the most notorious – and best-selling – comics of the 21st century is Identity Crisis, a murder mystery by novelist Brad Meltzer and artist Rags Morales. The central plot draws in almost every recognisable superhero and villain from DC, along with a few unrecognisable ones. And it all it begins with the murder of Elongated Man's wife, Sue Dibny.

From there, the stretchy detective superhero stumbles upon a conspiracy that takes in mind wipes, Batman being betrayed by his friends, and rape. Quite a lot of rape. And more murder. All involving people with colourful tights on.

We've seen already how recent live-action DC movies have tended to be a little dark, but nothing should ever get as dark as Identity Crisis. The whole story is hackneyed and distasteful, but the reason it doesn't work – and why it wouldn't work on screen – is because of the cognitive dissonance involved in superheroes being mixed up in such seedy, disturbing affairs. That's just not what comic books should be.

It's not what comic book movies should be, either. And to give Zack Snyder some credit, at least he didn't consider putting serious sexual assault in his superhero flicks.
