10 Things That Will Piss Fans Off About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Now that The Force Awakens is finally out the dissection can begin, and there€™s much to discuss. The pressure on J.J. Abrams on this one had to be overwhelming; he had to re-energize the series after the prequels, mix a new cast with the old favourites and put his own stamp on an iconic series. The good news is he managed to succeed €“ mostly €“ in his goals, as The Force Awakens is the best Star Wars movie since Return Of The Jedi. It€™s not all good news however. There was no possible way the movie could live up to everyone€™s expectations, and it has a lot of issues that keep it from being an all-time classic. Most of this is down to Abrams himself, who has some annoying habits as a writer and director that have reared their ugly heads again. For a creator who commonly acknowledges his own shortcomings, he doesn€™t seem to working very hard to overcome them. Unbelievable plot contrivances and an intense nostalgia fetish are just a couple of the big issues and, while they may not spoil the film on first viewing, they€™ll no doubt ire fans down the road.

10. There Was No Possible Way It Could Live Up To Expectations

This isn€™t anything the filmmakers could control; expectations for the new film were so dangerously high that short of curing cancer and giving people a relaxing foot rub while they watch it, disappointment was inevitable. Abrams first job with he film was to stabilise and restore dignity to the saga, which he managed to do. He made a solidly entertaining adventure movie that respects the series, while introducing some great new characters. Yet people are still disappointed because it didn€™t deliver on the movie they€™d imagined ever since it was announced, and they€™re going to take those feelings out on The Force Awakens regardless. The film is far from perfect, and there are things that could have been improved, but the film is a definite return to form for Star Wars. After the initial wave of disappointment that it isn€™t the greatest motion picture of all time, hopefully people will be able to appreciate it for what is, and not punish it for what it isn€™t.
