10 Things That Will Piss Fans Off About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

9. The Story Relies On Insane Coincidences To Work

Another J.J. Abrams issue is his dependency on ridiculously convenient plot turns, with Star Trek taking home the crown; that€™s a movie where Kirk is banished to an abandoned ice planet, where he just happens to run into Spock Prime and Scotty. The Force Awakens regularly relies on eye-rolling plot turns, like Finn and Rey happening to run across the Millennium Falcon while escaping from Jakku. Then Han and Chewie just happen to come across their lost ship at that exact moment after years of searching, which houses people who have a map to find his old friend Luke Skywalker. There€™s other minor examples of this, like Finn coming across Rey about a minute after arriving at Jakku€™s market and the group arriving at the place that just happens to house Luke€™s lightsaber. Some might say all these coincidences are meant to be destiny; honest people would just call it lazy screenwriting.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
