10 Things That Will Piss Fans Off About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

7. A Lot Of Great Characters Have Nothing To Do

The story moves at rapid speed in The Forces Awakens, meaning that a lot of great characters aren't given much to work with. General Leia is the biggest letdown storywise; she has some emotional reunion scenes with Han but aside from that she€™s in a control room giving people orders. She€™ll obviously have a greater role to play in Episode VIII €“ given her relationship with Kylo and Luke €“ but she feels underutilised this time around. The return of C3PO and R2-D2 is also a little disappointment; they have absolutely no purpose other than fan service, and while C3PO at least gets a few funny lines poor R2 is just left sitting quietly in a corner gathering dust. Captain Phasma has a cool look and is set-up to be a great villain for the heroes; a promise that is never fulfilled. She shows up occasionally, is a little menacing and then disappears before the climax. The great Max von Sydow is completely wasted, and even new hero Poe vanishes for about an hour, leaving a lot of great actors to make the best of very little.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
