8. Sometime The Stakes Don’t Have To Be World-Ending
Batman is useful in nearly every scenario. Need a goon's kneecaps shattering, Batman’s your guy. Demonic aliens are raining from above? Batman is still probably your guy, but he’ll mostly spend his time swinging around and growling.
Some of the best stories from the Animated Series and comic books have involved Batman inserting himself into more personal and self-contained threats.
His presence over Gotham has extended beyond punching psychopathic clowns and romancing cat-eared kleptomaniacs, and when Batman turned his attention to very real crimes, it was entertaining and often thought-provoking.
In the animated series, a superb episode features a young girl wandering off with her imaginary friend- which Batman quickly discovers is actually her absentee father in a cloaking suit, looking to abduct and run away with a daughter he has been court-ordered never to contact.
Sometimes lowering the threat to something small raises the tension even more.
Gotham City might not be under siege with Mad Hatter or Babydoll running loose, but a film showing Batman encounter and disarm a threat that hits closer to home for most audience members would humanize him a little more besides reminding us that he's just a rich man who can kick well.
