10 Things The Hobbit Does Better Than The Lord Of The Rings

4. Providing A Believable Dragon/Flying Beast

Similar to the issue we had with the Wargs in Lord of the Rings, the Fell Beasts (the dragons the ring wraiths rode) were hit and miss in the movie. At times they looks fantastic, at others they seemed stiff. None of them compared to Smaug. Smaug is what we were all waiting for when it came to a big screen adaptation of The Hobbit. Never mind Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield, or Gollum. Smaug was the character that had to be right. Botch the design, and the movie would be considered a failure. Weta got this one right, and Smaug is absolutely fantastic. He's fluid, and moves how we imagine a dragon should.
