10 Things The MCU Wishes It Could've Done Differently
4. Kept Patty Jenkins On Thor 2
In what will go down as one of the MCU's biggest behind-the-scenes failings, there was a point in time where Marvel Studios had hired Patty Jenkins to direct Thor 2, only to part ways with the filmmaker over the dreaded "creative differences", just two months after she came onboard.
If that name sounds familiar, it's because Jenkins just delivered the best female-led superhero movie we've ever seen (and one of the strongest superhero movies of the last decade, full-stop), with 2017's Wonder Woman.
It was reported that Jenkins' Thor 2 pitch (said to be a Romeo and Juliet-esque tale, with Jane Foster stuck on Earth and Thor unable to reach her) just wasn't what Marvel Studios was looking for, which led to the two parties separating. Quite why the two sides didn't settle on the film's basic story before signing contracts is anyone's guess, but regardless, Feige will surely be kicking himself that he let Jenkins go, especially after the success of Wonder Woman, and the disappointment of The Dark World.
Whatever Jenkins had in mind, it would surely have been more interesting than the Thor sequel we did get, which, while not awful, is widely regarded as one of the MCU's weakest offerings, and is currently the lowest-rated film in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes.
