10 Things We Know About The Future Of The X-Men Movies

3. Disney Won't Change Deadpool

Around the world, Disney is perceived as a family-friendly brand.

Their PG-13/12a franchises like Star Wars and Marvel, insanely popular animated fare, and their suite of theme parks and resorts has given them near-universal appeal, with virtually everything the company has to offer able to entertain people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.

Because of this, Deadpool doesn't seem to fit into the Disney mold. They don't have any major R-rated movies or franchises currently on the go, and a foul-mouthed, sexually-explicit, violent character isn't one that screams 'wholesome family entertainment.'

But that's why fans love Deadpool; he's different, funny, crass, and he's handy with a pair of blades. Watering down Ryan Reynolds' uber-popular take on the character to make him more suitable for younger audiences - and a better fit for the Disney family - would be plain wrong. But is this the route Disney would take if they took control of Fox's assets?

Fortunately, it seems the answer to that is no. Shortly after the Fox deal was announced, Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed the future of Deadpool in a media call (via THR), stating that Deadpool could work at Disney - with the right branding:

"It [Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool... as long as we let the audiences know what's coming, we think we can manage that fine."

Rejoice!

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
