10 Things We Learned From Mark Hamill At Star Wars Celebration Europe
6. Michael Arndt's Draft Had Luke In Scuba Gear
One of the most intriguing parts of The Force Awakens development Michael Arndt's early draft of the script; little is known about it, bar that the writer left the project allegedly because he was steering too far away from the original cast (although the version we got was pretty forward thinking).
Hamill never got to read it (Arndt had left before he signed on), so couldn't share any specifics, but he did get a look at some of the concept art for that version, including a drawing of Luke in scuba gear with Rey.
It's impossible to know what this means without knowing more about the draft, but it could be linked to the early plan of the heroes diving into the sunken wreckage of the second Death Star to find some unknown schematics. What it does say for definite, however, is that Luke would have a bit of a bigger role.
