3. Why Was His Relationship With His Mother Strained For Some Time?
As we mentioned earlier on in this list, McConaughey had to learn a few lessons during the early stages of his career in order to later become the critical and commercial darling he is today.
One of these many trial and error moments came when the actor's own mother exposed much of his private life without his knowledge right around the time he first started to become famous in Hollywood.
McConaughey told Rogan that one of his buddies randomly rang him one night and told him to switch on Hard Copy (an American news show). When he eventually did, the actor was shocked to find his mother giving a reporter a tour around his childhood home, pointing out where McConaughey bedded his girlfriends etc.
As you'd expect, the actor quickly got on the phone to his mother and asked her what she was doing, to which she replied, "I didn't think you'd find out."
Though this story seems quite funny on the surface, it actually led to him having an eight-year period where his relationship with his mother was strained due to a fear that she would reveal something sensitive to a reporter.
Yet, once he'd established himself, he happily allowed his mother to say and do whatever she pleased.
