10 Things We Learned From The 6-Minute Ant-Man Trailer

8. His Prospects Aren't Great

Unfortunately, friendship and freedom are the only things Scott has going for him in the short term. Even though he has a master's degree in electrical engineering, a detail which seems likely to be important later, he ends up working at a Baskin-Robbins. And hey, do what you gotta do, no job is beneath you, people need their ice cream. But Scott has debts and a daughter to worry about, and faces a difficult return to society. Rudd's performance is essential here. He does a great job of convincing us that Scott is put-upon but never whiny or self-pitying, that he really wants to turn his life around but is a little fuzzy on the how. Even though most of us have not gotten out of prison after a career in theft, a lot of adults and even some teenagers can relate to that "okay, what now?" feeling. Also, of course, the fact that he doesn't have a lot to lose makes him a lot more likely to do something crazy like dress up in a self-miniaturizing costume and try to beat up somebody in a better, sleeker self-miniaturizing costume, simply because an old coot told him to.
