7. Hank Pym Is An Old Man Who's Made Some Mistakes

It's tempting to project existing Marvel-knowledge onto a movie. It's clear that this Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) won't be the Hank Pym we know. For one thing, he's pretty old - old enough to have an adult daughter with some years on her and old enough to be played by Michael Douglas. Heck, he wasn't a founding Avenger and never created Ultron. Whether he ever struck his wife, the most infamous moment in comic-book Hank Pym's history, is unclear. But there are a couple of signs that Pym, if not openly abusive, hasn't lived the best of lives. When he takes an interest in Scott, it's like he's flexing fatherly muscles he rarely gets to use, and when he tries to guide Scott onto the path of redemption, he seems to be hoping to be redeemed by proxy.
