Immortan Joe, The Great Humongous, Master Blaster, Aunty Entity, Toecutter - the Mad Max world has had its fair share of villains, but if there's a fault in them, it's that they haven't exactly pushed Max as far as they could.

If anything, Toecutter and his gang from the first film did the most damage, setting off the Main Force Patrol police officer onto the path of destructiveness and insanity you find him in during later films by murdering his family. Since then, however, while Max villains have been visually impressive and unique in appearance, they haven't been all that challenging in a one-on-one level.

Think about it: The Great Humongous looked impressive but pretty much drove right into Max in a rather silly death, Master Blaster was a pretty original idea, but Blaster was felled by a whistle and then murdered while defenceless. Aunty Entity was more a figurehead type villain, and Immortan Joe was in the same vein as Humongous.

What the Max world really needs is an antagonist who pushes Max both physically and mentally, and drives him right over the edge of insanity, a line which he's already perilously close to falling over.
