10 Things We Want To See From Disney's Live-Action The Lion King

Long live the king.

As Disney have recently revealed, The Lion King is the latest back catalogue movie to receive a modern overhaul, following in the footsteps of Cinderella, The Jungle Book and next year's Beauty And The Beast.

Disney’s announcement met with mixed reactions, but the performance of Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book earlier this year, which earned just shy of $1 billion worldwide makes more live action projects an inevitability.

The adaptation of the ‘94 animated classic has been fast-tracked into production, with Favreau returning to mess with childhoods the word over.

As one of the most revered of all the classics, forever jostling with Beauty And The Beast for poll position in the Disney ranking, this “new reimagining” of The Lion King is destined to become one of the most interesting of all Disney’s “live-action” adaptations, especially considering the film’s zero human interaction.

Having already proved his mettle at revamping Disney (and filling its pockets), and given that this will tread in the wake of Bill Condon’s Beauty And The Beast (a classic that better lends itself to a live-action makeover), we can trust in Favreau to get this right.

However, just to make sure, here are ten things all fans will want to see.

10. Stunning Aesthetics

Something that a contemporary remake of The Lion King stands only to benefit from is cutting edge technology. We saw what up-to-the-minute tech did for Avatar, The Jungle Book and a whole bunch of movies in between, but what it could do for The Lion King is nothing short of exciting.

Fans expect a gorgeous colour palette and stunning photorealism of the African savannah, together with expertly realised creature design.

Its aesthetic qualities are what made The Jungle Book so wildly impressive and here, we want the same kind of digital world and feeling of being alive, immersed in a real, authentic territory – otherwise why bother with a remake at all?
