This is of course the first question that many fans have been asking since this project was announced: Why?

Sam Esmail has also been announced as taking the lead on a new television series, one set in the expanded universe of Battlestar Galactica. So, with that being the case, why is a movie coming at all?

Is this a case of the network simply daring for a cash grab? It would not be the first studio to trot out a property with the hopes of making a quick buck. However, this does not always result in a failure. The movie adaptation of 21 Jump Street was hilarious, while also serving as a complete re-imagining of the original series.

Star Trek has of course been rebooted while also the original series has been continued so again, the mere existence of this project does not necessarily spell doom. However, for it to have any merit, artistically or not, there needs to be an actual reason for it to happen. With it being another reboot, that is concerning, to say the least.

Please, give the audience a reason to watch this, rather than simply re-casting a previously-told story!
