2. Even More Tribbles

Even non Star Trek fans found it hard to miss the tribble reference in Into Darkness, but wouldn€™t it be fantastic to see the meddlesome creatures wreak havoc on the Enterprise in the new universe? Spock seems far more in touch with his human side in this universe, so in his own words it would be €œfascinating€ to see how a supposedly emotionless alien would interact with the cute collections of fur. The Trouble with Tribbles has become an iconic episode of The Original Series. It was heavily referenced in a Deep Space Nine episode, showing that the longevity of these mischievous creatures has not yet exhausted itself. The reboot universe has clearly already come into contact with the tribbles since Dr McCoy bought one back to life with Khan€™s blood in the closing scenes of Into Darkness. This is perhaps the only time when tribbles have been shown in Star Trek as a singular animal; all other times they have reproduced rapidly, causing the ship to struggle with its new and ever expanding visitors. This could not be the primary feature of a film, which would be far too boring for modern audiences. It would make for an interesting addition to the already large number of references to other Star Trek incidents within the films.
