6. Carol Marcus

In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan it is revealed that Captain Kirk had fathered a child with Carol Marcus, played by Bibi Besch. This romance was clearly brief, and was instrumental to the plot of both Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock. The inclusion of the character, played by Alice Eve in Into Darkness, sets into motion a new romance between Kirk and Marcus. Since Spock and Uhura are an item in the new universe, this romance will be welcome to fans of the original franchise. William Shatner€™s character was an infamous womaniser, and in a bid to prevent this philandering from infiltrating the new universe, it would be intriguing to see how the dynamic of the franchise will progress with these characters. Unlike the previous entries that focus on new villains and links to The Original Series, this inclusion would give the characters further depth. This depth would hopefully prevent the franchise from stagnating and becoming little more than an explosive action film. It seems certain that Alice Eve is set to reprise her role in the third film, and with any luck this reprisal will feature a relationship with Kirk that surpassed the sexual desire of Into Darkness (with the unnecessary scene where she gets changed) and moves onto an emotional level that lets us see into the characters.
