10 Things We'd Love To See In Star Trek Into Darkness Sequels

5. David Marcus

As previously stated, Carol Marcus and Kirk eventually had a child, David Marcus. While this child is clearly unlikely to feature in the third film, it would be amazing if he was featured in a later film. We have already seen in both films that Kirk is more than happy to practice a promiscuous lifestyle, but Hollywood is wary of showing the effects of such a lifestyle. This means David may take a while to appear, if he ever does appear. Not every element of the original timeline has to occur in the new universe, but seeing Kirk as a father as well as a commander would give the character a level of depth we have not yet seen. Given how Kirk lost his father in 2009€™s Star Trek, it would be extraordinary to see the way in which Kirk deals with fatherhood; would he lose his risk taking edge? This could be an amazing way to enhance the character further, but arguably would signal the decline of the franchise as fatherhood would almost definitely lead to a less adventurous lifestyle. Carol Marcus and James T. Kirk are clearly youthful figures in this universe, so it is looking unlikely that family life will suit them. However, it would be an interesting take on the traditional universe, and it would give fans a way to remedy Kirk€™s womanising tendencies in The Original Series by showing that the character is capable of emotions. Also, how would you explain to a young David Marcus that his grandfather had tried to kill Kirk and start interstellar war with the Klingons? This could introduce a new dynamic to the universe that would certainly not go amiss.
