10 Things We'd Love To See In Star Trek Into Darkness Sequels
4. The Genesis Device
As noted earlier, Into Darkness drew heavily upon The Wrath of Khan. Thankfully the Genesis device, which had been a key plot line in the Wrath of Khan, was left out of the latest release. Despite this, it would be a nice homage to the original franchise if this universe altering device was introduced in a later film. It would not have to be brought into the franchise under the same conditions, but it could be brought in as a small reference which would send fans into a frenzy. The device was shown to create a new, habitable world on otherwise desolate landscapes. On the flipside, the device would disassemble any other matter, meaning that the place it is used on must be completely devoid of life. This potentially villainous use of the device could turn it from a useful way of expanding the habitable universe to an utterly destructive weapon. The original franchise dealt with real world issues in a futuristic context, and as the ominous shadow of nuclear energy and nuclear weaponry continues to loom over the planet, this plot device could ensure that the new franchise pays respect to the originals.
