10 Things Wrong With Jupiter Ascending

5. The Movie Goes From Action-Packed To Insanely Dull In Mere Minutes

From a pacing perspective, this movie is completely all over the place. Though it still suffers from the aforementioned scripting issues, the opening 30 or 40 minutes are actually pretty fun, packed with action (including the genuinely brilliant Chicago chase sequence) and not overdosing too much on leaden dialogues. After this point, though, the movie just falls off a cliff, with a lengthy half-hour section in which no action abounds and the Wachowskis attempt to immerse audiences in the woefully boring story. Things ramp up again for the frantic and thrilling finale, but there's a good chance you'll be close to snoozing by that point. There's no consistency to the movie's tempo and it vacillates between heart-stoppingly fast-paced and soul-destroyingly sluggish at a moment's notice.
