Set in the fictional Illinois town of Haddonfield (which takes its name from co-writer/ producer Debra Hill’s hometown in New Jersey), Halloween was shot in South Pasadena, California, and several details throughout the film that betray the location. Palm trees are visible in the background, cars sport California licence plates and even though it’s late October, everything’s green and everyone wanders around in shirtsleeves.

The house seen in the film’s opening sequence was at the time of shooting located at 707 Meridian Avenue, but has since moved to the corner of Meridian Avenue and Mission Street – right across the street from the hardware store where Michael steals his mask. It’s a mini tourist attraction where fans come to snap pictures, but don’t expect a sense of déjà vu because it's now a doctor’s office.

If you’re looking for an exact replica of Michael’s childhood home, you need to go up to the tellingly named Michael Myers Home in Hillsborough, North Carolina, where fan Kenny Caperton reconstructed just that. Needless to say, the house is the setting for numerous horror-themed events and is popular among trick or treaters.
