In 1981, extra scenes were filmed for the NBC broadcast version of Halloween, the cost added to the budget of the then in-production sequel. Eerily prefiguring Rob Zombie’s reboot, this version cuts from the opening murder to a hearing in Smith’s Grove sanitarium, although the scene does yield one important nugget: Michael’s middle name is Audrey.

There’s also a brief sequence where Dr Loomis (Donald Pleasance) speaks to the 6 year old Michael, and again it’s impossible not to be reminded of Zombie’s version. Later, Loomis is shown Michael’s cell following his escape and discovers the word “Sister” scratched on the door.

The most interesting scene is the final one, where Lynda (PJ Soles) informs Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) that someone might be following her. The scenes were shot at 1428 N Genesee Avenue in Hollywood – the house used for exterior shots in A Nightmare On Elm Street.
