It's all-but trivial now in the billion-dollar world of Hollywood to create authentic replicas of historical costumes, and even back in the days of The Last Crusade it was easy to accomplish. Luck sometimes plays a part in films and in this case, the job of costume designer Joanna Johnston became a lot easier.

At some point in the film, the Joneses travel to Germany to rescue Henry's diary from being burnt in a massive book burning rally, which was filmed at Stowe School just outside the UK's capital city of roundabouts, Milton Keynes. Among the ordinary civilians were droves of Nazis on parade. Something that may go over the heads of the ordinary movie-going public was that every one of the uniforms worn by the German army was 100% real.

When doing research for the film in what was previously known as East Germany, Johnston came across a cache of authentic Nazi uniforms which she was able to acquire for the extras and actors in this scene.
