The correlation between box office revenue and critics reviews is a puzzle that nobody has been able to work out, and probably never will. You can have films with amazing reviews that make absolutely no money, and then there are films that are utter trash but make a fortune.

Though Insidious: The Last Key is not a bad film at all (it's actually quite good), it does carry the lowest rotten tomatoes score with 33%. Despite that, the film managed to defy expectations and become the highest grossing film in the whole franchise by grossing over $167 million worldwide.

In stark contrast to that, the first Insidious film, which is absolutely the best, has the highest rotten tomatoes score of the series with 66% but the lowest worldwide gross with $97 million worldwide.
