4. He Never Planned On Making Any Sequels To Batman Begins
Its easy to forget what a leftfield choice Chris Nolan was to reboot Batman; at that point, he had produced just one film Insomnia inside the studio system, and by no means did that hazy, atmospheric thriller make him an obvious choice to helm a large-scale blockbuster with so much riding on it for Warner Bros. In hindsight, it was a masterstroke a serious director taking the subject matter seriously and rewarding the faith shown in him with arguably the best Batman film yet seen. Batman Begins earned a healthy, though not overwhelming, $374 million worldwide and was warmly received by critics, who by and large welcomed the intelligence and ambition Nolan brought to bear. Nevertheless, while Batman Begins did enough to warrant another outing, it was never in Nolans mind that he would be the man to deliver it. Fearful of the potential pitfalls of sequels and a firm believer in only committing to one project at a time, Nolan commented: I wanted to put everything into making one great film, I didn't want to hold anything back. The Joker card Easter egg at the end of the film was only included to signal that Batman had officially arrived and give viewers something to talk about. It was only much later, when Nolan started to think about what that character would be like in the world he had created, that he began to contemplate making a follow-up.
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
