Not so long ago, Matthew McConaughey was an undeniably handsome, charismatic actor who undeniably put a greater priority on surfing and playing the bongos naked than seeking out challenging projects. Despite his early promise, the actor chose to pick up easy paychecks starring in generic, forgettable Rom Coms rather than explore his range, but in the last few years something clicked. McConaughey is Tinseltowns latest King Midas, immersing himself in daring, edgy roles like True Detectives Rust Cohle, producing crackling cameos in The Wolf of Wall Street and Magic Mike, and rightly taking home the Academy Award for Best Actor earlier this year for his harrowing turn in Dallas Buyers Club. Hes currently the most sought-after leading man in showbiz, so Chris Nolan can consider himself very fortunate to have Hollywoods hottest commodity on board to head up his impressive Interstellar cast. Except, of course, movies dont work that way McConaughey was approached to take the lead in Interstellar long before the McConaissance became a thing. As Nolan explains: I had seen an early cut of Mud because my friend Aaron Ryder produced it. At the time, people hadnt yet figured out what a great actor Matthew is. So we raised a few eyebrows when we first brought his name up. But the thing with Matthew is, once you realise what a great actor he is, its like a switch being flipped. You cant get enough of the guy at that point.
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
