Writer Chris Claremont originally intended for Jean and Scott to leave the Xavier Institute and start a family of their own. Then, when Jean died, Marvel replaced her with Madeline Pryor. Although it wasn't confirmed until later, Madeline was a clone of Jean. She and Scott fell in love, got married, and had a son. They even left the X-men for a time so that they could have an independent life. The plan was that the X-men would have a continually evolving cast as the older students left and new mutants joined the school. However, a few years later Jean Grey returned from the dead, and everything went out of the window. Scott and Madeline split up and he went back to Jean and rejoined the X-men. This began a trend that continues to this day, where almost all of the X-men's original cast have left the books only briefly. Today, most of the characters who were once students at the school have now become teachers, and only very minor members of the team leave permanently.
With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
