Another common misconception is that Cyclops's eye-blasts have heating properties. This is probably because they are most similar (at least visually) with Superman's heat/laser vision. The idea is so commonplace that even X-men Origins: Wolverine featured Cyclops using his powers to set fire to things. In actuality, Cyclops's eyes were originally identified as portals to a dimension of 'red energy.' Scott metabolises ambient energy in order to open these portals, with the energy spilling out in the form of concentrated beams of concussive force. Other early accounts describe Cyclops' optic beams as the product of his body metabolising sunlight and other ambient energy. Still later, it was described as simply an expression of energy from his body in the same way that normal humans give off heat energy. However, while there are few sources that agree on the exact nature of Cyclops's powers, one thing is clear. While they may be powerful enough to knock down walls, they don't generate any heat.
With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
