6. He's Resigned From His Role As UN Messenger For Peace
Like a number of other Hollywood stars noted for their humanitarian work and charitable causes, Clooney has been a passionate advocate for a number of causes over the years, speaking out against the decision to go to war in Iraq in 2003 and leading a campaign against the genocide in Darfur in 2008. For his efforts Clooney was made a Messenger for Peace at the United Nations, in an effort to use his media image and PR clout to advocate for more humanitarian causes. However, since his recent marriage Clooney has decided to step down from the role, with a UN spokesperson saying, "after six years in this role, Mr Clooney feels it is time to retire his official role as messenger of peace." Whether or not he returns to his charitable work once the dust from the wedding settles is uncertain - but with his strong background in supporting political and social causes around the world and a human rights lawyer wife, it's unlikely this resignation signals the end of such advocacy.
