8. The Critics Didnt Love The First Gremlins
Like myself, many of you look back at the original Gremlins film fondly. It had adorable characters, a likable cast, and was an overall fun creature-feature. Not everyone felt this way upon the release. While certain critics (like Roger Ebert) did approve of the films, the detractors were much more verbal. The most famous of these being Leonard Maltin. Maltin criticized the level of violence in the film and also referred to the film as icky and gross. Maltins notoriously bad review of the first film did manage to have one positive outcome: it landed him a cameo appearance in the second Gremlins film. In the cameo, he recites his review of the first film before being attacked by the Gremlins.
