10 Things You Didn't Know About Mark Hamill
1. He Loves British Comedy
In a final twist to the multi-dimensional man behind the mighty Luke Skywalker, it turns out that Mark Hamill was quite the fan of British comedy. During the Star Wars shoots, he struck up a strong bond with the big bad Emperor himself. Yes, Hamill and the actor who plays ol' naughty Sidious, Ian McDiarmid, both had a love of British comedy.
This is a tantalising insight because if you think about it, what British comedies were big at the time of Star Wars? Well, only flipping Monty Python, Porridge, Rising Damp and Fawlty Towers. The 1970s have often been referred to as the golden era of British comedy, and rightly so.
Evidently then, Hamill was no sheltered fool. Surely to express a love for this kind of comedy is to show darn good taste? The answer you're looking for is yes, it is. One can't help but wonder what it would be like if the Python team filmed Holy Grail a couple of years later, and in it, they crossed that bridge after answering the three questions only to find Hamill, in full Jedi garb, with a lightsaber at the ready. He'd have been up for it I bet. Lancelot v. Luke.
