10 Things You Didn't Know About Prometheus

5. Jesus Was Originally Part Of The Film's Plot

Right, when we say Jesus, we mean it in the loosest way possible. Yes, Prometheus did originally feature Jesus in its screenplay, but it wasn't the biblical son of God that you know from the Bible. Presumably omitted due to continuity and pacing concerns like much of the film's original content, Prometheus originally featured a sub-plot featuring Jesus to explain why the Engineers were so damn mad with the humans that they created. The story followed that the Engineers, seeing that the human race was faltering down the wrong path of existence, sent an emissary to Earth to guide the young race into leading better lives. However, this emissary was branded as a heretic, black magic user and a danger to the humans themselves, and was slaughtered by command of their leaders. The killing of their emissary made the Engineers furious, and instead of the warm welcome they intended to give the humans upon arriving at LV-223, they decided to instead set a trap - leaving behind a biological weapons facility instead. The emissary in question was originally intended to have been who we believe to be Jesus in the Bible: the character closely resembling the biblical figure's actions, martyrdom and poorly-understood (at the time) attempts to absolve the human race of its sins.
