In typical Verhoeven fashion, Starship Troopers is an explosive action film, filled with over the top gore and violence and over the course of its run-time, countless humans and bugs are shot, dismembered and killed on the blood-soaked battlefields of bug planet Klendathu.

The barren wastelands used to film scenes on the alien planet's surface are located in an area known as "Hell's Half-Acre" in the middle of the state of Wyoming where the sharp cliffs and colourful valleys make for a perfect science fiction setting.

But the violent murders of humans and bugs in Starship Troopers were not the only scenes of bloodshed witnessed on the harsh and inhospitable landscapes of "Hell's Half Acre" and in years gone by Native American Indians were known to drive herds Buffalo over the edge of the cliffs to a messy demise.

This sobering fact, that thousands of animals were gruesomely sent to their deaths in such a bewitching location, lends the already curious landscape a haunting atmosphere.
