8. The American Release Of Mad Max Was Redubbed By American Actors
If there's one thing American audiences often struggle to understand it's the English language spoken in a foreign accent - more than a few English language movies from around the world have had to be released with subtitles in the States in order for the audience to have a clue as to what's going on. While most films this applies to tend to be from Britain - Ken Loach's films set in Yorkshire and Scotland have had the subtitle treatment applied - it's much rarer for Australian films to need subs. With Mad Max, rather than go the subtitling route the US distributors decided the redubbing all the dialogue with American actors would fix the linguistic problem. Both versions of the film are available, and listening to the Australian sound mix and you can hear that it wasn't just the accents that was the problem - some scenes the mix is so bad that you can't even hear the dialogue in the first place.
